Cronin Bill Supporting Access DuPage is SIgned into Law
August 22, 2008:
Springfield,
IL:
Legislation sponsored by State Senator Dan Cronin (R-Elmhurst) was signed into
law on August 22, and will provide protection from civil liability for
physicians who provide free medical services through Access DuPage.
Cronin said that Access DuPage is a first-rate program
offered in DuPage County, which provides critical medical services to low-income and uninsured residents.
Previously, the law did not allow exemptions to civil liability for a free
medical clinic unless the clinic has posted an explanation of the exemption
somewhere on the premises. Cronin explained that this was a problem because
Access DuPage offers free medical services but does not have a clinic building
where that information can be posted.
The new law, Public Act 95-0874, allows free medical clinics to be exempt from
civil liability if they notify each patient in writing of the exemption.
"We need to support the physicians and specialists who are
providing much-needed health care services to residents who may not otherwise be
able to afford medical care," Cronin said. "I was happy to sponsor legislation
that would ensure doctors in DuPage County who are providing a charitable service, are protected under the law."
Senator Cronin Co-sponsors Resolution Stopping Pay Hikes for
Legislators in Economic Hard Times
August 13, 2008: In an Elmhurst Press editorial comment Jerry Moore writes:
Those poor, noble souls -- how in the world are they going to get by?
Somehow members of the Illinois General Assembly will have to make ends meet on
the meager 3.8 percent cost-of-living salary increase they received last month.
Yesterday by a vote of 47-0, the Illinois Senate rejected a proposed additional
pay raise of 7.5 percent OK'd by the Compensation Review Board.
Thankfully our elected leaders were shrewd enough to realize this wouldn't be a
good time to hike their salaries. To get two pay raises in the same year when
many of their constituents haven't been offered any would seem a tad heartless.
"The Democrat leaders that run Springfield have failed -- their behavior
these last several years has been disgraceful," Sen. Dan Cronin, R-21st
District, of Elmhurst said in a press release (he co-sponsored the resolution in
the Senate rejecting the pay raises). "Although many of us are working
hard to do the right thing in spite of Gov. Blagojevich, no one deserves a pay
raise in these tough times."
I couldn't have said that better myself.

In what State Senator Dan Cronin said was the first step in the road to erect a
memorial to honor veterans who have been recognized for their service the
United States in the War
on Terrorism, Senate Bill 2302 was signed into law on August 11, 2008.
Cronin sponsored Public Act PA 95-0797, which creates the War on Terrorism
Veterans Act and would allow the state to erect a monument to honor veterans who
have earned the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal for
service in Operation Enduring Freedom, the Iraqi Campaign Medal for service in
Operation Iraqi Freedom, or the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for
service in either Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“Regardless of what your personal beliefs may be about the conflict in the
Middle East and Southwest Asia, the men and
women of our Armed Forces have selflessly given their time—and their lives—to
serve,” Cronin said. “This is just one way we can recognize their sacrifices and
honor their service to this country.”
The monument will be constructed alongside others honoring veterans of the
Korean War, Vietnam War, and World War II, in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield,
IL.
